This Friday the theme for Kelly's "Show Us Where You Live" is children's birthday parties. Last weekend I took my oldest son Grant to a Harry Potter event at the public library and I thought that a lot of the things they did would be great ideas for a Harry Potter themed birthday party.
Here's my guy in his homemade Harry Potter costume. There is a griffin on his shirt and Harry is in the Gryffindor house so it seemed appropriate. The cape is from an old ninja costume. For some reason Grant felt it was very important that he wear a belt (he usually doesn't). I used an eye makeup pencil to apply the "scar" to his forehead. We did buy the glasses from a party supply store.

First the kids each picked which house they were in, notice the evil Slytherin house was not an option.
Grant got Gryffindor, yeah!
There were three stations set up and each house went to a different station and then they switched stations when they completed the one they were at.
The first station for Grant was potions. I think the librarian is dressed as professor Trelawney, she looked great.

Cute! I am huge fan of Harry Potter, so maybe this is a good idea for my next birthday?! :)

ReplyDeleteOh I just love this! Harry Potter is just my favorite! All the kids I knew when it started (over 10 years ago!! eeek!) Are grown out of it but it is so nice that there are new fans! JK Rowling is my hero! She made little boys read big books!!!
