My two treasures.....

I've have two treasures I've bought this year that I just love.
Both have little stories to go with them.
So sit back and I'll share.....

Once upon a time (when I lived in Illinois) I bought an antique scale.
The price was very good, $12.00 I think.
It was beautiful and I loved it.

Then one day the top broke off.
This was before I knew blogging existed.
I had never heard of epoxy.
So I.....
Well I......

I threw it away ~gasp!~

I feel like such a dummy!!

I recently decided I need to put the past, in the past, and move on to the future.
So I've bought an antique scale off Ebay.
She's rusty and curvy and I just LOVE her!
I'm a happy girl!
All's well that ends well!

I found this beautiful candlestick at an antique mall.
For some strange reason I didn't buy her.
I was getting other things that day and I guess I just felt I had to draw the line somewhere.

Of course I couldn't stop thinking of her.
I was kicking myself for not bringing her home.
When I went back to the store she was gone.
Of course.

Except it turns out she wasn't gone.
Many months later I returned to the store.
She had been placed in a different spot, way up on a high shelf.
And now she is mine.
We are living happily ever after. ;)

  1. The perfect love story!! I love them too!!

  2. They are great finds. Same thing happened to me. My hubby and I were at a "junk" store. I found a scale sort of like yours but it was really rusted up. No price so I put it back. All I could think about was that scale. Asked my honey if he would stop and ask how much on his way home. He didn't have time. So I let it be. Last night he asked me to get the mail out of the front seat of his car and there was the scale!! I told him it was the nicest thing he ever did for me. Oh and it was $5!!!

  3. Great stories, Lisa! I'm glad you were able to get another scale {and discovered blogging}. As for the candlestick, things like that say "meant to be" to me.

  4. Oh I love your scale, I have one similar and I love it too. Your candlestick is just wonderful. What a thrill to find it after thinking it was gone. Hugs, marty

  5. I love your two treasures, especially your scale!! Your white accents look beautiful against the rusty colors!
Love the stories behind them, too. :)
    Have a great day! ~ Jo :-)

  6. I love your new scales Lisa:) I love that both of these gorgeous pieces have a story to them! Hope you have had a lovely week. Hugs ~ Tina xx

  7. I love these old rusty scales...I have been looking for one myself. The candlestick is adorable.

  8. Great stories and great treasures. Glad you got what you wanted.

  9. Love the scale!! I have one in my kitchen! I am glad that you were able to find another one!! And I have found that if something calls out to me that I had better buy it because I know as soon as I get home without it, it will haunt me forever!!

  10. I am so glad that you stopped letting the broken, discarded scale "weigh" you down!!!!(couldn't resist)
    The new one is perfect.

And, I love the candle holder. I love a story with a happy ending!!

  11. I'm sorry about your first scale, but love the second one. And I'm so glad you were able to reunite with that gorgeous candle holder!!!

  12. Happy Friday! I am stopping by via the linky party.

    Your scale looks utterly charming!

  13. I felt bad for you when you said you threw your original scale away. But you've bounced back with your new/old one and your "meant to be" candlestick. That's my philosophy too, if it's destined, it will happen. Love your vignettes.

  14. Hi Lisa,
I know what you mean about throwing things away and later wanting to kick yourself. I think back about all the things I gave away or threw away before I had my booth and became a junker. Makes me ill. Oh well, live and learn.

I'm glad you found another one. I like it! I also love your cherub candleholder. It was meant to be.

  15. Oh how funny!! Can you believe the crazy things we did before we knew about blogging? Now we can get so much inspiration!! Maybe too much sometimes, for me that is! ;)

Love that little candle holder too, and the scale is just perfect!

  16. Your finds are gorgeous! I especially love the candle holder - she is adorable.

  17. I love your cherub and I'm so glad you were was a match that was meant to be:) It's funny when I look back at the things I gave away or dumped before I discovered blogging...I'm sure we all kick ourselves over something!

  18. How sweet, I'm glad it ended happily ever after :).

  19. I've been getting into scales lately also. I bought and sold one to a friend, only to get a blue one from my husband's aunt just this weekend. I think we've all been there -not buying something and wishing we did. I'm glad yours worked out. Where in Illinois did you live?

  20. I clicked over from a link party (I can't remember where) but I have been reading back and back and back... I'm going to follow you cause I love your blog. Please come by and check mine out when you have time... we have some decorating in common! :)
