It's funny how sometimes the littlest projects can be to most difficult.
This is one of those projects.
I found this cute little milking stool at an antique store.
I'm pretty sure it's a reproduction.
It was in really rough shape and had this hideous varnish on the legs.
Fist I gave it two coats of creamy white paint.
Then I printed out this really cool Graphic from my true love, Graphics Fairy.
I used a pen and pressed down really hard on the image so it would leave faint grooves underneath.
This is hard work! My hands started cramping, ouch!
I ended up doing a lot of the painting free hand where the tracing didn't show through.
The next step was sanding the heck out of it.
The sanding turned part of it gray where the black paint smeared.
I then used a tiny brush to cover the smears with white paint.
Can you say Tedious!
I wanted to accent the rough parts of the stool rather than disguise them.
I also shabbied up the legs.
Time consuming for such a little piece of furniture.
But it's pretty cute.
I hope you like the rooster pillow cover in the background because I'm planning on having a giveaway soon!
It's Friday, woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great week-end!

Absolutely darling! I love how it turned out! Also, wanted you to know I highlighted your darling pots from last weeks Feathered Nest Friday party! Love them! :)
ReplyDeleteYour stool is amazing! I love it. My hands cramp up like that to and it is soo painful. I think mine is call arthiritus though but cramp sounds so much better. lol
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful success. You seriously need to start making videos.

Fabulous as always dear Lisa!!! I love it, and definitely think that all your hard work paid off big time!! Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs hugs as always ~ Txx
ReplyDeleteOh, this little stool is tres chic!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the little project that turn into big ones! I refinished a little wooden tray once that turned into a nightmare! LOL!
That image took a great deal of hand lettering, so I can see why it was difficult. But it was so worth it.
hugs
Sissie
Oh, I truly know how a little project can turn into much more. I'd say it was worth the effort! It's a one of a kind! Nicely done, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! ~Michelle :)
All that hard work paid off! I love the finished project. It's so "you"
ReplyDeleteThe little stool is adorable! I love the graphic you used. FYI next time place carbon paper under the graphic and it easily transfers the design without having to press hard.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sherry
Excellent tip Sherry! Thanks! I will definetly do that next time.
ReplyDeleteLooks adorable and I really like the carbon paper idea. I'm actually glad to hear that someone else has project 'issues' at times :)
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Your dated little stool has so much personality now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the carbon paper, but if you don't have any on hand, turn your image over and using the side of a pencil, colour over your image areas (on the backside.) Then when you flip the paper back over the image transfers with a pencil outline without a lot of pressure. Faux carbon paper (hehe).
This is very cute Lisa! Love the addition of graphics, makes it one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteKim:)
I think it IS super cute! You did a great job. I need to experiment more with graphics and stencils. I have used simple paint letter stencils only. Which are pretty limited!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing how you did your project!
~michelle~
Sooooo cute! And so worth the time and effort! And I definitely spied the rooster cover in the background - love it!

My mom has a brown stool just like this somewhere around her house! I might just have to take hostage of it and re-vamp it like you did! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteJust fabulous!!!!!

This beautiful post makes me think of my Swedish grandma, who was apparently "famous" for her milking abilities in Sweden, so much so that she went to Finland for awhile and became a "milkmaid."
ReplyDeleteLove it.
cute cute cute cute cute! i hope you think it was worth all that work b/c i certainly do! looking forward to a giveaway on that pillow, too :)
ReplyDeleteI think it was worth every single minute you put into it. It looks so great!
ReplyDeleteHave a pretty day!
Kristin
Well worth the time I'd say....it's ADORABLE!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe what you have here is part of a piano stool. I have a stool identical to this one. I was told that the hole in the middle used to house a threaded steel rod that allowed the top part of the piano stool to turn at different levels. I may be wrong, but anyhow, it is darling. So many uses for it.

It's just adorable! Love the distressing. And the lettering is beautiful! Really!
ReplyDeleteBut I agree with Elizabeth - use pencil on the backside for a transfer. Carbon paper (graphite paper) can smudge quite a bit - although I use it all the time for murals just because I don't want to take the time to pencil the entire design.
Would love for you to drop by and link up to Passion for Paint this weekend.

ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a fantastic weekend!
Blessings,

You did an amazing job Lisa! It is absolutely adorable and perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt came out super cute! Have you heard of rub-on transfer paper? You can print out a design using your inkjet printer and then using a hard tool (like the back of a spoon), you rub on the reverse side of the image and it transfers onto the object you want it to stay on (like your stool). Not sure how it would work on a semi-rough surface but might be worth a try.
ReplyDelete~ Robyn
it turned out beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI just love your site...thanks so much for sharing it....Sheryl
ReplyDeleteyour stool is perfect!! love love love it!!
