Which do you like?

I am painting a French style buffet with Chalk paint.
The colors I'm using are French Linen and Pure White.
I've tried two different looks on the doors and I can't decide which I like better.
So please help a girl out and let me know what you think. :)
Door #1
Gray with white trim and some distressing.

Door #2
Applied some dry brushed white on the door.
Does it give it a cool textured look?
or
Does it just look messy?

I keep staring and staring at it and I can't decide!!
What do you think?

Edited to add: I will be using clear and dark wax on the piece when it's finished, so the white won't be as stark as it is now.

I also wanted to mention that the framed burlap piece in my Fall Entryways post is from the Etsy shop
 My Adobe Cottage.
Many people wanted to know if I had made it so I wanted to give props to the person who did.
It was a custom piece I ordered from the shop and I then framed it myself.
I ordered it way back in 2010 and it still looks great!

  1. I choose Door #2. I love the way it looks. It does give a textured look, not messy at all!

    Have fun!

  3. Hmmm...it's hard to tell from photos but I say #2, Lisa. They both look great. I love the gray color.

  4. Lisa, I really like the first one because I prefer the "cleaner" look. But, the pure white next to the linen is looking a little stark to me. Are you planning on waxing it? I think waxing the whole thing in a light brown will tone down the white and give a beautiful blend. It's going to be a beauty whichever you decide. :)

  11. Although I like both looks, the first one is my favorite though because it just has a classy rustic look to it. That's a style I'm drawn to though!

  12. Lisa I like both, but I would go with #1. The waxes will finish it off beautifully!
    Great job!

  13. I like how crisp #1 is plus the dark wax will give you some of the distressing look you are getting with #2. I just painted my bedroom furniture the same color ASCP! Love it :)

  14. Well, I am not into a lot of really heavy distressing, I prefer it to be subtle, so I would choose #1. Good luck. Hugs, Marty

  16. I like door #2. It reminds me of the process I used to paint the furniture in my family room. I painted it grey and then dry brushed white on it.

  26. My first reaction was option 1 and with the wax it will be beautiful. I don't think you will be sorry whichever you choose. The base paints are great and that's the hardest part.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

  28. I left my comment on your previous post! I vote #1 - classic French and with the wax finish it would be gorgeous :)

  29. I had to sleep on it, but I'm definitely for Door #2. I would be happier for the long term with the clean look that really accentuates the lines of the piece. Have fun no matter which you choose. It will look great.

  30. Lisa, Both look great but I like #1 slightly more. Either paint treatment will be beautiful.

  31. I would definitely do door #2. At first I thought there was a tad too much white but if you're dark waxing it will be perfect! Good job!
