My Dad's Kitchen Remodel

One of the reasons I was so excited to visit California this summer was to see
my dad's new kitchen in person.
My dad bought a new (old) house this year and completely made over the kitchen himself
(except having his appliances installed professionally).
He did an amazing job and I just had to share it with all of you!

This is what he started with, very brown and very dated.
Notice the cook top and to the right a wall oven.

The kitchen is now so light, bright and beautiful!
My dad decided to place an oven where the cook top was and placed shelves in the area where the wall oven used to be.

The beautiful glass tile back splash is from Home Depot.

My dad replaced the linoleum floor with this rectangular shaped tile.
It is unusual and really pretty!

Here is a close up of what the cabinets looked like before.
Eek!

My dad built new cabinet fronts for all the cabinets from scratch!
I just love them! Great hardware too!

The wood counter tops are from Ikea.
They were on back order for a long time and we were so glad when they finally got them back in.

New lighting as well.
I sent my dad quite a few Pinterest photos of kitchens with white cabinets and wood counter tops.
I am so glad he decided to go for it!

I love the baskets above the fridge.
My dad made a special spot for the microwave.
It's the perfect height and doesn't take up any counter space.

Wainscoting on the wall leading into the dining room.
I can't remember if he put it in or just painted it.
I'm sure he'll let me know once I post this. :)

My dad put bead board on the peninsula and it looks great!

I just love side by sides. I helpfully labeled then before and after. (snicker)

My dad did such an amazing job! I am so proud of him and I just love his beautiful new kitchen!

If you have any questions about sources leave me a comment and I'll check with my dad and reply back to you in the comments section.

  20. What a talented man!! The money he saved being able to do most of the work himself boggles my mind! I hadn't seen rectangular tiles.. so unique! Love the brightness of the white with the warmth of the tans and browns. A man's kitchen for sure but welcoming to any woman wanting to cook with him!!

  21. Impressive!!! Hi Lisa!

How are you? Long time no blog communicado (is that spanish? haha) I miss you! 6 months on the East Coast and how long ago did you move to Texas...a little over a year! And us with no visits! The kids are bugging that we haven't been to Texas, but this summer with the 105 temps...ugh...how are you making out? Of course we have had facebook, but I just can't seem to get back to blogging...wasn't even reading them much either. So.....I am going to try and catch up on all your doings via Fern Creek Cottage and see what I've missed.

  24. I love it! He did an awesome job on those cabinets! We painted our kitchen cabinets white when we moved in to our new (old) house as well. We haven't done the counters yet but the butcher block counters from Ikea is exactly what we were thinking about doing too so it's fun to see that all together!
