My Cottage Christmas Entry Way 2014

My entry way is an area of the house that I haven't had a chance to do any decorating since we moved in this summer.
This bench sits here for putting shoes on and there is a basket that my boys never actually put there shoes in, preferring to have them sprawled all over the floor for people to trip on.
Ahem, back to the Christmas decorating.
I thought this would be a fun area to add a little Christmas cheer and it has motivated me to come up with some ideas for after the holidays.

Last Christmas (or maybe the one before that) I bought these darling red deer hooks at
World Market.
I plan to use them in my youngest sons bedroom, but hadn't got around to it yet, so I decided to borrow them for now.
To make the coat rack I stained a board in a very dark stain, but didn't like it.
I decided to try added some lime wax and it turned the board a gray driftwood color, which was not what I was expecting.
I decided to roll with it because the gray ties in nicely with the gray of the vintage minnow bucket.

Above the coat rack I hung a vintage apple barrel lid.
I like the rusticness (not really a word) it brings to the space.
Rustic is my fave at Christmas time!

I've owned the scarf hanging from the coat rack for several years, but I just took the tags off.
As cute as the scarf is, it just never gets cold enough in Houston to need one.
I never thought I'd miss cold, but I do.

Love my vintage minnow bucket and always knew it would be perfect for holding a little
Christmas tree.

I {heart} it so!!

I found the little tree at the grocery store. Much to my surprise they had a huge variety of little trees
 at Kroger.

I went through my pillows stash trying to find just the right ones.
I actually took photos with my phone of different pillow combos so I could scroll through my options and see which I liked best.

The burlap pillow is an old one from Restoration hardware.
I think it ties in nicely with the barrel lid.
The red pillow is a newer one from Target.
Red for Christmas, duh.
;)

Finally, the bench is one my dad built for me over ten years ago.
It is larger and study than a lot of benches in this style because I used to use it as a coffee table.
I love having a piece of furniture my dad's made for me!

So there you go...my Christmas entry way.
A little bit of rustic a little bit of cottage and a lot of Christmas cheer!

  7. I love your rustic country Christmas touches in the foyer. I saw one of those lids at an antique store one time and thought about buying it. I never knew what it was. Now I do! Your house sounds like mine with the shoe problem. I think it's a boy thing. I always end up walking around and picking up shoes and placing them where they belong.
